Synonym: Polygala macrostachya Hassk. 

Vernacular name: Periyanka

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Among sedges and grasses in scrub jungles

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka and Malesia

Flowering and Fruiting: July-January

Key identification features: Erect herbs. Leaves linear-lanceolate, apiculate, bracts persistent. Racemes axillary, usually drooping, glabrous; flowers yellow; sepals persistent. Capsule slightly winged, caruncle cup shaped, 3 appendaged above; seeds hairy.

Uses: It is used to treat asthma. The powdered root has also been recommended for kidney disease.
