Key identification features: The culms of this plant grow in tufts. The culm sheath is broadly triangular. The upper sheaths are the
longest and turn from light green to stramineous. The blade of the sheath is
erect, broadly triangular, slightly narrowed where it meets the sheath, and
acuminate. The inflorescence
typically occurs on leafless branches from the middle of the culms.
Pseudo-spikelets form small groups at the nodes. The spikelets contain 5-10 perfect florets.
Use: The culms are also the main
material for the bamboo furniture industry and they also produce good quality
pulp to make paper
