Xanthophyllum flavescens Roxb

Synonym: Xanthophyllum pallidum Ridl. 

Vernacular name: Madukka, Madakka, Mottal

 Habit: Tree

Habitat: Evergreen and semi-Evergreen forests, also sacred groves in the plains

Distribution: Western Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.

Flowering and Fruiting: Throughout the year

Key identification features: It is a medium-sized to large tree. Its bark is grey, warty, and corky on the outside. The leaves are oblong-lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, with an acuminate tip. Pale yellowish flowers arise in terminal and axillary pubescent panicles. The fruit is indehiscent, globose, and has thick walls.

Uses:The pulp is eaten, The fruit is produced in clusters
