Vernacular name: Elipoochedi, Sugandhi, Saugandhikam

Habit: Shrub

Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also grown as garden plant

Distribution: Widely cultivated and naturalised in the tropics

Flowering and Fruiting: October-December

Key identification features: This plant is a rhizomatous herb with a leafy stem. Its leaves are oblong and acuminat. The spike contains 2 to 4 flowers. The labellum is white with a pale yellow base, and lateral staminodes are present.

Use: Cultivated as an ornamental plant, it also has traditional medicinal uses, including treating fevers, asthma, and rheumatic conditions.
