Distribution: South India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar

Flowering and Fruiting: March-April

Key identification features : Rhizomatous herbs with conical yellow rhizomes and ovate-fusiform root tubers. Distichous ovate-elliptic leaves. The inflorescence lacks a distinct coma, and fertile bracts are lanceolate with pink margins. Flowers have a funnel-shaped light yellow corolla tube, and a white labellum with deeply split lobes.

Use: Its rhizomes are used for flavoring, coloring, cosmetics, perfumes, and in aromatherapy.
