Vernacular name: Arayal.

Habit: Tree

Habitat: Widely planted in temple premises, also naturalized.

Distribution: East Himalayas; planted and naturalised elsewhereand neighbouring countries

Flowering & Fruiting: February - June.

Key identification features: A large deciduous tree. The characteristic heart-shaped leaves are long- petioled with the apex drawn into a tail-like structure. Figs are globose, small and purplish when ripe. Bark yellowish or grey-brown, smooth becoming scaly with age.

Uses: Used to treat Asthma, Diabetes, Diarrhea, Epilepsy, Gastric problems,
