Habit: Tree

Habitat: Monsoon and rainforests.

Distribution: Indian subcontinent; widely grown as avenue tree

Flowering & Fruiting: March – December

Key identification features: This 30 m tall tree has spreading branches with numerous aerial roots. Its bark is greyish-white, smooth, and exfoliates irregularly. The leaves are ovate, leathery. The tree produces unisexual flowers, with male flowers having a single stamen and female flowers having a superior ovary. The figs ripen to orange-red and contain dark brown achenes.

 Uses: Used for treatment for Liver and spleen enlargement, Diabetes, Dysentery, Leprosy, Diarrhea, Leucorrhea etc.
