Ficus exasperata Vahl

Synonym: Ficus silicea Sim 

Vernacular name: Parakam, Therakam

Habit: Tree

Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains

Distribution: India, East Africa, Arabia and Sri Lanka

Flowering and Fruiting: February-April

Key identification features: Deciduous trees, pale greenish bark, broadly, Leaves simple, alternate; elliptic to obovate leaves. Inflorescence syconia; flowers unisexual. Syconia axillary, solitary; yellow or purple when ripe; achene oblong.

Uses: Root decoctions are taken for the treatment of urinary tract ailments, gonorrhoea, asthma and tuberculosis.
