Tinospora sinensis (Lour.) Merr.

Synonym: Tinospora malabarica var. tomentosa (Colebr.) Trimen 

Vernacular name: Amrtu, Cittamrtu, Kattamruthu, Peiamruthu, Pothamruthu

Habit: Climbing Shrub

Habitat: Evergreen and moist deciduous forests, also in sacred groves in the plains

Distribution:   Indian Subcontinent to China

Flowering and Fruiting: February-June

Key identification features: The climbing shrub features broadly ovate leaves. In male flowers, 3-5 flowers cluster together, each with a pedicel. The petals are smaller in size. There are 6 free stamens, each with orbicular anthers. Female flowers resemble male flowers, with similar sepals and petals. The drupe is ovoid, red in color, and glabrous.

Uses: Stem is used to treat fever, jaundice, burning sensation, diabetes, piles, skin ailments, neurological diseases and urinary diseases.
