Portulaca oleracea L.

Synonym: Portulaca officinarum Crantz 

Vernacular name: Cheriyagolicheera, Karicheera, Koluppa, Kozhuppa, Kozhuppacheera

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Wet areas in degraded forests, also in the plains

Distribution: Pantropical.     

Flowering and Fruiting: June-September

Key identification features: Portulaca species are annual or perennial herbs. Inflorescence axillary or terminal clusters or cymes about 2-30 flowered, rarely solitary. Flowers bisexual, Fruit is a capsule.

Uses: Aqueous extracts of the plant have shown muscle-relaxing effects. The plant is anthelmintic, antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antiscorbutic, depurative, diuretic etc.
