Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.

Habit: Shrub

Habitat: Tropical Zone         

Distribution:  South East Asia and South Asia

Flowering and Fruiting: sterile, with flowers only growing very rarely

Key identification features: It is a shrub with slightly leaning or erect stems with aerial roots. The leaves are light green, linear, and sword-like, tapering to a pointed tip. The apex of the leaves is abruptly rounded-acute. Lateral pleats are no longer visible, and the leaves emit a musky scent. The leaf margins are usually unarmed, except for a few minute prickles at the extreme tip and along the midrib. Occasionally, the midrib at the base may have short, distant retrose prickles.

 Uses: Used as food colouring and flavouring. It is also grown for decorative purposes.
