Habitat: Grown as garden plant

Distribution: Native of tropical Africa

Flowering & Fruiting: Throughout the year

Key identification features: Decumbent herbs with rooting stems at the nodes have opposite leaves, ovate to suborbicular in shape. The calyx tube is densely covered with green, hair-like appendages, and the petals are pink and obovate. Stamens have pink anthers and a modified connective spur. Fruits are about 1 cm across with ribbed seeds.

Uses: Used as ornamental plant in gardens
