Habit: Tree

Habitat: Evergreen forests, thickets, swamps

Distribution:  Indo-Malesia to Australia and China

Flowering and Fruiting: December-May

Key identification features: A moderate-sized to large evergreen tree often found along mangrove swamps. Bark is dark-grey and smooth on old stem. Leaves are simple, obovate and large, with an entire margin, lateral veins are close and parallel. Stamens are 16. Fruit is a one-seeded berry. Fleshy and edible fruits.

Use: The wood is used for construction, furniture, and artistic objects .
