Distribution - Originally from Tropical America; now widespread in the tropics

Flowering and Fruiting - June-November

Key Identification feature - These shrubs or small evergreen trees grow up to 5m in height. Their leaves are simple, ovate, and shiny above, with red dots. The flowers are with purple sepals and pink or white petals. The capsules are globose or ovoid, covered in dense bristles and containing obpyramidal seeds with orange-red sarcotesta. 

Uses - It is a Medicinal and an Exotic plant
