Smithia conferta Sm.

Synonym:  Damapana conferta (Sm.) Kuntze, Smithia geminiflora var. conferta (Sm.) Baker

Vernacular name: Elakanni, Thiruthali, Thituthali

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Marshy areas in grasslands, also in the plains

Flowering & Fruiting: November-February

Distribution: Indo-Malesia to Australia

Key identification features: Erect or scandent herbs; stems glabrous. Leaflets 5 or 6 pairsoblong, acute, strongly bristled along margins and midribs below; rachis terminate into a bristle; stipule 13 mm long, ovate above, 2-lobed below. Flowers solitary or paired, pedicelled; petals yellow with red lineole.

Uses: Used to treat stomach ache and ulcers
