Vernacular name: Gowri mara, Kakechapaya (Kannada); Chella, Kodangi, Pullarei, Nedunar, Perumaram (Malayalam)

Habit: Tree

Distribution: Southern Western Ghats

Flowering & Fruiting: November-April

Key identification features: Tall trees with surface blackish-grey. Leaves simple, alternate, distichous, estipulate; Flowers bisexual, greenish-yellow, fragrant. Fruit aggregate of berries; berry obliquely ellipsoid to broadly ovoid, blunt, hoary puberulous, ash coloured; seed one, orbicular, ovoid.

Uses: Polyalthia fragrans have shown potential in promoting gastrointestinal health
