Habitat: Evergreen and semi- evergreen forests

Distribution: South India and Sri Lanka

Flowering & Fruiting: May - August

Key identification features: Subcanopy trees in low and medium elevation evergreen forests. Leaves simple, alternate, distichous. Flowers solitary or in clusters on branchlets and on tubercles of trunk, greenish yellow with red tinge. Fruit aggregate of berries, ovoid, apiculate, dark purple; seed one, broadly ovoid, grooved, smooth and shiny.

Uses: Bark and leaves of this plant show effective antimicrobial activity, cytotoxic function, antiulce. Activities, hypoglycemic activities and hypotensive effect
