Synonym: Desmodium heterocarpon (L.) DC., Hedysarum heterocarpon L.

Vernacular name: Nilathuvara

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, also in plains

Distribution: India, South Africa, China, Japan, Malesia

Flowering and Fruiting: October-December

Key identification features: Ascending undershrubs; root stock creeping; branches adpressed hairy. Racemes terminal, Flowers purple; Pods lower margin indented, upper straight, 5-7-jointed; joints about as broad as long.

Uses: The whole plant is used medicinally for reducing fever and for treating contusions and strains.
