Habit: Herb

Habitat: Moist deciduous forests and grasslands, also in the plains

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka to Japan, Malesia and Australia, America

Flowering and Fruiting: June-December

Key identification features: Small herbs, rhizome oblong, perennial. Leaves lanceolate, plicate, base sheathing. Perianth yellow, stamens 6, filaments erect; ovary 3-celled, ovules many, villous. Fruit baccate; seeds subglobose.
