Key identification features: These palms has a smooth trunk marked
by prominent annular leaf-scars. The leaves are bipinnate. Each leaf has 5-7
pairs of pinnae. The spadix emerges between the leaves, is pendulous. The
flowers occur in triads, with the female flower positioned in the middle. The
fruit is globose and reddish-purple.
Uses: Seeds eaten, but its pericarp is
notorious for irritation, precautions are taken during taking out the seed. Not
so sweet, little bitterness is there.
