Habit: Tree

Habitat: Cultivated and naturalized

Distribution:  India, Central America, West Indies

Flowering and Fruiting: May to July

Key identification features: It is a small deciduous or semi-evergreen tree with an open, irregular crown. The yellow-green flowers occur in clusters of three or four, with three long outer petals and three very small inner ones. The fruit varies in shape like heart-shaped, spherical, oblong, or irregular. When ripe, the fruit is brown or yellowish, with red highlights

Uses: The leaves are used internally against worms, and externally to treat abscesses. A concentrated extract of the seed is employed to remedy dysentery and diarrhoea
