Alysicarpus bupleurifolius (L.) DC.

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Deciduous, rain, evergreen and subhumid forests, often found in ponds, water-filled ditches and along canals

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangaldesh, Malesia, Myanmar, China, Philippines, Mauritius, Polynesia

Flowering and Fruiting: September-October

Key identification features: It is a perennial herb with leaflets that are glabrous, linear, or lanceolate. Inflorescence is racemes with flowers arranged in distant pairs (10-20). are very short. Fruit is a pod is stalked.

Uses: As a nitrogen-fixing legume, Alysicarpus bupleurifolius can be grown as a green manure crop to enrich the soil with nitrogen and organic matter.
