Alysicarpus heterophyllus (Baker) Jafri & Ali

Synonym: Alysicarpus vaginalis var. heterophyllus Baker

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Grasslands

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan          

Flowering and Fruiting: October-January

Key identification features: Procumbent herbs that have stems that are strigose along a single line. The leaves are alternate, with the upper leaves being 3-foliolate. The raceme is terminal and reaches a length of 5 cm. Flowers appear in distant pairs along a filiform rhachis. The standard petal is pink.

Uses: The root is used as a substitute for liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
