Talinum portulacifolium (Forssk.) Asch. ex Schweinf.

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Wet and shady places, Wastelands

Distribution: Ethiopia, Gabon, India, Kenya, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Zimbabwe

Flowering and Fruiting: February-November

Key identification features  Erect annual subshrubs, 1 m tall with simple, alternate, obovate or oblanceolate leaves.  Flowers pink-purple or white; Capsules globose, 3-valved. Seeds 35 in each capsule, ovoid or subreniform, black, shining, with concentric striations.

Uses: Leaves decoction aphrodisiac, for constipation; leaves applied against eye diseases. Roots for cough and gonorrhea.
