Synonym: Afrohybanthus enneaspermus (L.) Flicker 

Vernacular name:  Orithalthamara

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Dry deciduous forests and wastelands

Distribution: Sri Lanka, India, China, Madagascar, Africa and Tropical Australia

Flowering and Fruiting: July-November

Key identification features: These annual herbs have woody stems at the base. Their leaves are simple, alternate, and subsessile. The flowers are solitary and axillary, with unequal pinkish petals. Stamens number 5, and the ovary is ovoid with many ovules. Capsules are ovoid, containing numerous seeds.

Uses: Tt serves as a host for the Tawny Coster butterfly.
