Key identification features: Erect herbs; stem 4-angled, laxly villous. Flowers few in terminal cymose clusters, 4-merous, Petals pink, Capsule globose. Seeds many, minute.
Uses: The whole plant is antitussive, expectorant and
febrifuge. A decoction is used in the treatment of watery diarrhoea, dysentery
and excessive sputum production in coughing.
