Synonym: Parilium arbor-tristis (L.) Gaertn. 

Vernacularname: Mannapu, Paarijatham, Pavizhamalli, Pavizhamulla

Habit: Shrub

Habitat: Grown in homesteads as garden plant

Distribution:  South and South East Asia

Flowering and Fruiting: September-April

Key identification features: This large shrub or small tree grows up to 8m tall. Leaves are decussate-opposite, varying in shape from ovate to sometimes oblong. The flowers emit a pleasant fragrance and are subtended by two broadly ovate or elliptic bracts. The corolla tube is orange-red or orange. The fruit is an orbicular compressed capsule, containing one or two seeds.

Uses: Used as ornamental plant
