Vernacular name: Vellilavu, Venthekku (Malayalam)

Habit: Tree

Habitat: Moist and dry deciduous forests, also in plains

Distribution: Southwest India (Endemic)

Flowering & Fruiting: June-February

Key identification features: Deciduous trees, with their smooth, peeling greyish bark and knotted branches, grow up to 30 m. They have glossy, opposite leaves and small white flowers that form clusters. These trees bear ovoid capsules filled with winged seeds.

Uses: Its bark and leaves are traditionally used in herbal medicine for their anti-diabetic effects, aiding in the management of blood sugar levels.
