Key identification features: It is a shrub that can be either
scandent or sarmentose. The bisexual flowers are usually axillary, terminal, or
leaf-opposed. They come in shades of brown, purple, or yellow and can be
solitary or arranged in cymose fascicles. Ripe carpels are often edible,
globose, and can be either berries or dry, containing few to many seeds.
Uses: Root and bark decoction is used to
treat rheumatism, fits during delivery and bowel complaints. Leaves decoction
is used to treat jaundice, rheumatism, biliousness and fevers.
