Key identification features: Deciduous trees with bark surface grey to dark brown, rough, exfoliating in small irregular flakes, fibrous; blaze crimson red or deep pink; exudation gummy, red; young parts stellate-rusty tomentose. Flowers unisexual, yellowish-green; Fruit a drupe, ovoid, red; stone hard; seed compressed.
Uses: Young leaves and sprouts are eaten raw or cooked. The
heartwood is light red when freshly cut and is used for spear shafts, scabbards,
wheel-spokes, oil presses and grain
