Anisomeles indica (L.) Kuntze

Vernacular name: Chedayan, Karithumba

Habit: Undershrub

Habitat: Mixed deciduous forests and wastelands

Distribution: Indo-Malesia and China

Flowering and Fruiting: October-April

Key identification features: It is a woody herb with stems that are 4-angled. The leaves are broadly ovate to obovate. Flowers occur in axillary sessile clusters or terminal interrupted spikes. The pale pink corolla is 2-lipped. Stamens are 4 in number are didynamous and exserted. Nutlets are lenticular and reddish-brown.

Uses: The leaves sometimes used as a culinary herb or flavoring agent in cooking. They may be added to dishes for their aromatic qualities and subtle flavor.
