Vernacular name: Chena, Kattuchena

Habit: Herb

Habitat: It grows as wild in moist deciduous forests and also cultivated in some part of the state

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka and Pacific Islands

Flowering and Fruiting: May-June

Key identification features: This plant is a perennial herb characterized by a corm which has a depressed globose shape and features tubercles. Inside, it is pale pink. The lamina is ovate and decurrent at the base into a wing toward the petiole. Flowers appear on the lower half of the spadix. The berry is oblong, orange-red, and glabrous.

Uses: Cooked as vegetable. Used for anaemia, constipation etc
