Key identification features: These perennial herbs have leaves that are opposite. They can be narrowly
elliptic, broadly elliptic, oblanceolate, or rhomboid-ovate in shape. The
tepals are white. The inner two tepals
are slightly shorter and usually have one to two veins. Additionally, the
pseudo-staminodes are as long as the filaments.
Uses: The cooked vegetable is given to
anaemic children in order to improve their health.
