Vernacular name: Chotthu Kathalai

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Hilly areas, thicklets

Distribution: Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Naturalized in most part of the World

Flowering and Fruiting: Jun-Aug, Nov-Dec, Sept-Jan

Key identification features: Aloe vera is a short-stemmed shrubby aloe, frequently suckering and forming dense clumps. The leaves are succulent, erect, forming a dense rosette. The flowers are yellow, tubular with anthers and stigma protruding. The flowers are borne in cylindrical racemes on a branched panicle.

Uses: The distinctive constituents in Aloe leaves are phenolic compounds, including chromone, anthraquinone or anthrone derivatives
