Malvastrum coromandelianum (L.) Garcke

Vernacular name: Broom Weed

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Degraded moist deciduous forests and wastelands

Distribution: Pantropical

Flowering and Fruiting: March-September

Key identification features: This herb has leaves that are alternate, ovate or lanceolate, and unlobed or shallowly 3-lobed. The axillary flowers are solitary or clustered, and the pale yellow corolla has petals that extend beyond the calyx lobes. Fruit is a shizocarp.

Uses: A decoction is used as a remedy for dysentery.
