Synonym: Heliophytum indicum (L.) DC.

Vernacular name: Thekkada

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Moist places, roadsides, borders of drains

Distribution: India, South America, Myanmar, Africa, China, Malaysia

Flowering and Fruiting: September-March

Key identification features: Erect, branched, pubescent herbs. Leaves sub-deltoid or broadly ovate, undulate margin. Spikes terminal or leaf-opposed, curved. Flowers pale violet or pink, salver-form; calyx-lobes linear. Nutlets ribbed, connate in pairs.

Uses: The plant has been widely used for centuries to treat warts, inflammations and tumours.
