Key identification features: It is an erect plant with alternate simple leaves. Papyraceous flowers, pinkish white to silvery white and sometimes bright pink at the tip of the flower spikes. The capsule is ellipsoidal. It is dehiscent and contains several black seeds.
Uses: Young shoots and leaves are used as pot herb and very
suitable vegetable. Seeds considered medicinal against diarrhoea. It is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and
courtyards around houses.
